Annual Scientific Meetings

Future ASMs

Southampton 17 - 19th September 2008
Newcastle 9 - 11th September 2009
Belfast 2010

The Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) is designed to facilitate the reporting of new research findings, providing opportunities for younger members to present in a relaxed, friendly environment and also allowing for presentations from established names in epidemiology and health services research. It provides excellent opportunities for networking, developing and maintaining friendships and enjoying the experience.

The meetings usually last three days and include one or two plenary lectures from invited speakers, several highlighted talks from the authors of the top scoring abstracts (according to committee review) and parallel themed talks. In addition there are always a number of poster presentations which can be viewed throughout the conference. One of the afternoons is kept free and delegates can choose between attending one of a number of workshops organised by society members or other society and trips around the local area.

The ASM moves around the universities of the UK and Ireland each year and is occasionally held jointly with the IEA-Europe (the European Region section of the International Epidemiological Association).

In addition to the ASM, the society runs a number of one-day meetings/workshops throughout the year. These can be organised by any member and are commonly held jointly with another society. Topics can include any aspect of health services research, epidemiology, or related theme and can be held throughout the country.

If you are interested in running a workshop, either at the ASM or as a one-day meeting, have a look at the guidelines which should provide you with all the information you need.
